Making A Plan

Have you made a plan for your goals yet? Are you just waking up each day and seeing how you feel and going with whatever motivation comes about from that? How is you current approach working out for you? Are you making the progress you would like to see yet?

Without a plan, you are relying on a consistent day after day high demand motivation to kick in so you follow through with your goals. You may just find yourself getting quite lost and falling back into old habits.

We are on autopilot for 95% of our day. That means that our actions, habits, emotions, are all re-enactments of your past based on what you are accustomed to. When you are trying to make changes, you are trying to shake up this autopilot.

When you make a solid plan, you are finding reasons deep inside you as to why you need to stick to your goals. So when you fall back into old habits, this plan is going to get you back on track.

Start with the bigger picture. If you could wave a magic wand and everything was exactly how you wanted it to be, you have achieved all of your goals. What would that look like? What would that feel like? How would you be behaving? How would you be showing up for yourself? This is your vision, the ultimate version of yourself. This is what you are ultimately striving towards.

If your goals do not fill you up with joy, are they really your goals? Are they really worth it? Are they in alignment with what you really want? Once you are clear on your vision, what behaviours would you be during on a regular basis in 3-months’ time from now, that are moving you towards your vision? These are your 3-month goals. Usually around 3-5 goals is the sweet spot for them.

When you know your top 5 3-month behaviour changes. By this time next week, what would you like to have accomplished that is in alignment and going to move you closer to your 3-month goals? Be specific, “I am going to go for a walk on Monday afternoon at 4pm for 45 minutes”. Make them tangible, so it is easy to know if you have accomplished them.

Who do you need to start being on a daily basis to get yourself already in the mode of being the person in your vision? What advice would that future version of yourself be giving you right now? What do they know that you do not?

Before you jump into your weekly goals. What obstacles may get in your way? Make a list of them, then make a list of solutions of how you are going to get around them. You are tackling your setbacks, before they even arrive. This will give you a solid plan to move yourself forward.

So, who do you want to be? How do you want to show up in this world? Who do you want to be known as? Now, go out and get started on your plan to make it happen.
